DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Cincinnati's men's and women's cross country teams both finished in second place in its opening races of the year at the 2008 Meijer Flyer 5K. The women's team finished in second- place out of seven teams, while the men's team finished in second-place out of eight teams.
For the women's team, Lilian Jelimo recorded a second-place finish with a time of 18:31, finishing 16-seconds behind Miami University's Laura Neuferth. Tamara Masters and Jill Glassmeyer ran finished one-second apart with Masters finishing in 11th-place (18:55) and Glassmeyer finishing in 12th-place. Megan Knapp, Alison Leckrone and Michelle McKenney rounded out the UC scoring with a 20th-place finish, a 22nd- place finish and 37th-place finish, respectively. Miami won the event with 23 points, while Cincinnati finished in second-place with 63 points. Dayton finished in third place followed by Xavier, IPFW, IUPUI, Wright State and Morehead State.
Tommy Morgan paced the Cincinnati team with a fourth-place time of 15:38. Morgan finished behind Miami's Pat Sovacool, and Kevin Silver and Morehead State's Ron Duncan. Bill Keckeis added another top-10 finish for the Bearcats after finishing in ninth-place with a time of 15:46. A solid string of finishes led Cincinnati to the second-place showing as Soloman Kessio and Randy King registered 17th- and 18th-place finishes, respectively, while Kyle Dragan, Ricky Lupp and Kyle Lang finished in 20th-, 21st- and 23rd-place, respectively. Miami finished in first-place with 33 points, followed by Cincinnati's 68 points. Dayton finished in third followed by Xavier, Morehead State, IUPUI, Wright State and IPFW.
Both teams compete in the Queen City Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 6, in Alexandria, Ky.
