PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Following a weekend where she averaged 4.18 kills per set and 1.27 blocks per set at the ASU Sheraton Invitational, senior Jessie Nevitt was named BIG EAST Volleyball Player of the Week, the conference office announced today.

Nevitt opened the tournament with an impressive performance against Cal State Northridge. Nevitt recorded 14 kills on 22 attempts without recording an error en route to a .636 hitting percentage. The Kennesaw, Ga., native also tallied six blocks against the Matadors. In the tournament finale against Montana, Nevitt smashed a season-high 19 kills to the floor as the Bearcats defeated the Grizzlies, 3-1. Along with her 4.18 kps and 1.27 bps, Nevitt averaged 5.18 points per set throughout the tournament.

This marks the fourth time in Nevitt's career that she has been named BIG EAST Player of the Week after earning the award twice during the 2006 season and once during the 2007 campaign.

Nevitt and the Bearcats return to action this weekend when they head to Bloomington, Ind. for the TIS Bookstore Indiana Invitational. Cincinnati plays Ball State at 10:30 a.m. and George Mason at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 19, before closing the event against tournament host Indiana at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 20.
