LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Cincinnati women's soccer team lost, 3-0, to Louisville on Friday night at Cardinal Park. The Bearcats (4-4-0, 0-1-0) outshot the Cardinals (3-2-0, 1-0-0), 16-15, in their first BIG EAST match of the 2008 season, but were unable to find the back of the net.

"We played extremely well and dictated the tempo of the game," said first-year head coach Michelle Salmon. "We made some key mistakes in key moments and because Louisville is such a good team, they capitalized on those mistakes. I feel like we are one pass, one touch, from a breakthrough performance."

Louisville scored the game-winner in the 19th minute when Lindsay Boling connected on a failed clear attempt by the Bearcats. Less than a minute into the second half, Caitlin Rehder took a pass from Ashley Auld and beat UC's keeper, Andrea Kaminski (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville) with a low shot at the far post. Auld put the third goal in the back of the net for Louisville with a feed from Rehder in the 52nd minute.

Kaminski finished the game with five saves and freshman Julie Morrissey ( Abington, Mass./Tabor Academy ) led all players with seven shots. Melissa Bigg ( Limehouse, Ont. /Acton ) added three shots and Jenn Johannigman ( Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) contributed two shots for UC. Erin MacDonald ( St. Catharine's, Ont. /West Park Secondary) , the Bearcats second leading scorer this season, did not play because of an injury.

"Erin MacDonald is a difference maker in a game, but Kendall Loggins ( Naperville, Ill./Naperville North) and Chelsea Kindschuh (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota East) really stepped up and we play such team-oriented soccer, that even though the scoreboard didn't read the score we wanted, we definitely did some great things today," said Salmon.

Cincinnati's defense drew Louisville offsides six times in the game and the Bearcats took six corner kicks to the Cardinals one.

UC will wrap up its five-game road swing on Friday, Sept. 26 when they travel to DePaul for a 2 p.m. (EST) BIG EAST match.
