PROVIDENCE, R.I. - For the second consecutive week, The University of Cincinnati's volleyball team had one of its players take home BIG EAST weekly honors as sophomore Stephanie Niemer was named BIG EAST Volleyball Player of the Week, the conference announced today.
Niemer was named to the TIS Bookstore All-Tournament Team this past weekend after averaging 5.11 kills per set en route to a .442 hitting percentage. In the opening match of the tournament against Ball State, Niemer put 14 balls to the floor on 26 attempts without recording an error. She followed that performance with a 15-kill outing against George Mason and a 17-kill performance against Indiana. Niemer averaged 5.89 points per set during the tournament. The all-tournament team selection was Niemer's third of the season.
Senior Jessie Nevitt earned BIG EAST Volleyball Player of the Week honors last week after earning all-tournament honors at the ASU Sheraton Invitational.
Cincinnati plays a mid-week tilt at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 23 versus IUPUI in Fifth Third Arena, before heading back on the road to begin BIG EAST Conference action at St. John's on Friday, Sept. 26.
