CINCINNATI - The official apparel provider of the University of Cincinnati Department of Athletics, adidas, is sponsoring a soccer hat giveaway to the first 300 UC students attending this Sunday's women's soccer match vs. No. 1 ranked Notre Dame.
The women's soccer team (5-4-0, 1-1-0 BIG EAST) wrapped up its five-match road swing with a 2-1 win at DePaul on Friday afternoon. They return to Gettler Stadium led by freshman Julie Morrissey (Abington, Mass/Tabor Academy), who has tallied three goals and two assists on the season, leading the Bearcats with eight points. First-year head coach Michelle Salmon brings a more aggressive offensive style to Cincinnati as the Bearcats have scored 13 goals in the first nine matches. UC finished the 2007 season with 23 goals. The match against Notre Dame will be the second time in three years that Notre Dame will travel to Gettler Stadium with the nation's top ranking. In 2006, the Fighting Irish traveled to Cincinnati and came away with a 3-0 victory.
Following the women's match, the men's team will look for its first BIG EAST win against longtime conference foe Marquette at approximately 3:30 p.m. The Bearcats have played three straight Top 25-ranked opponents to open the BIG EAST schedule, playing No. 20/17 Providence to a 0-0 draw and dropping matches at No. 7/4 Connecticut and No. 3/3 Notre Dame.
Admission to all soccer matches is free for UC students with a valid UC student ID or $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for youth (ages 12 and under).
