2008-09 Women's Basketball Schedule
CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati women's basketball team announced its 2008-09 schedule on Wednesday (Sept. 24). The slate features 18 home games, including a three-day holiday tournment on Thanksgiving weekend, and visits from crosstown rival Xavier and defending BIG EAST champ Connecticut.
"I am excited to hit the court for our 2008-09 season," said second-year head coach J. Kelley Hall. "Our schedule is going to prove to be very challenging. Our non-conference schedule is filled with local and regional rivalries and the BIG EAST is as tough a league as there is in the nation."
The Bearcats will take on nine 2007-08 NCAA tournament teams, including five that advanced to the Sweet Sixteen.
UC, which finished the 2007-08 season with a 12-16 record, opens the second season of the Hall era in Fifth Third Arena against Detroit on Nov. 14. The Bearcats travel to Kentucky to take on the Wildcats in Rupp Arena on Nov. 17 before returning home for a seven-game homestand, beginning with Toledo on Nov. 23.
The Courtyard by Marriott Florence Thanksgiving Classic will be held in Fifth Third Arena, Nov. 28-30. The four-team field includes Mississippi Valley State, Savannah State, and Eastern Illinois.
A visit from Dayton on Dec. 3 precedes the Skyline Chili Women's Crosstown Shootout, which is set for Dec. 7 at 2 p.m.
The Bearcats will make a short two-game road trip to play Wright State on Dec. 16 and Michigan on Dec. 19, a game slated for broadcast on the Big Ten Network.
Davidson (Dec. 21) and St. Francis (Pa.) (Dec. 30) are the final BIG EAST tune-ups, as UC opens conference play at home against Villanova on Jan. 3.
The home portion of the BIG EAST slate includes Syracuse, Seton Hall, Connecticut, Providence, Louisville, Marquette and DePaul. UC will face West Virginia, Louisville, Notre Dame, St. John's, Georgetown, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, and USF on the road.
The 2009 BIG EAST Championship, set for March 6-10 at the XL Center in Hartford, Conn., will include all 16 BIG EAST teams for the first time. UC made an appearance in two of three conference tournaments since joining the power conference in 2005-06.
