ATHENS, Ohio - The University of Cincinnati's men's and women's cross country teams extended their winning streaks to three races after both teams swept the Ohio Invitational Saturday morning at the Ohio University golf course. Sophomore Lilian Jelimo won her third consecutive race to lead the women's team, while junior Solomon Kessio earned the top finish for the men's team with a second-place showing.
Jelimo won the 5K race in a time of 17:24.71, finishing more than 11 seconds ahead of Ohio's Kari Summers. Junior Tamara Masters was the next Bearcat to finish as she clocked in with a fifth-place time of 17:56.38. After Shawnee State's Brittany Emmert finished in sixth, sophomore Jill Glassmeyer, senior Megan Knapp and freshman Alison Leckrone finished in seventh, eighth and ninth place, respectively, to collect the team's third straight victory.
The women's team finished with a total score of 30 points, 10 points ahead of second-place Ohio. Shawnee State finished in third place and Cleveland State posted a fourth-place showing.
Ohio's Shamus Eaton finished the 8K men's run in first place with a time of 25:08.70, before five straight Cincinnati runners crossed the finish line to secure the victory. Kessio led the group for the Bearcats with a time of 25:16.45, followed by seniors Rick King (25:18.83), Kyle Dragan (25:20.26), Bill Keckeis (25:25.10) and freshman Eric Finan (25:32.93).
Both teams return to action Friday, Oct. 10, at the All-Ohio Invitational in Delaware, Ohio.
