CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati men's golf team sits in 19th place after the second round of the Xavier Invitational on Monday (Oct. 13) at the Oasis Golf Club.
Senior Alberto Fernandez (Gijorn, Spain/La Corolla) led the Bearcats, firing an opening-round 72, and following with a 71. He is one under par for the tournament and 26th in the individual competition.
Sophomore Joe Kastelic (Newton, N.C./Fred T. Foard) shot an opening-round 77 and an even-par 72, good for a 64th-place tie. Classmate Jarryd Lentz (Monroe, Ohio/Fenwick) carded a 74-76=150 to place 69th.
Nick Proud (Middletown, Ohio/Lakota East) and Ryan Cahill (Columbus, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) shot identical 83s in the first round to finish out the Bearcats scoring. Proud followed with an even-par 72 in round two for an 87th-place 155 total.
Eastern Kentucky leads the team competition, shooting 282-278=560. Marquette's Mike Van Sickle fired an eight-under 64 and followed with a 68 to take a two-shot lead in the individual competition after 36 holes.
Cincinnati's 306-291=597 is two shots better than Towson (309-290=599) and three back of George Washington (307-287=594).
Third-round action gets underway on Tuesday morning at the Oasis Club.
