CINCINNATI - University of Cincinnati punter Kevin Huber (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas) was named the BIG EAST Special Teams Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 12, the league office announced Monday.
It marks the second-straight week a UC player has earned the league's special teams' award and the third time this season. Connor Barwin (Hazel Park, Mich./U. of Detroit Jesuit) took the honor on Oct. 6 and Mardy Gilyard (Bunnell, Fla./Flagler Palm Coast) earned it on Sept. 8.
Huber averaged 46.4 yards on a career-high nine punts and dropped five inside the 12-yard line in Cincinnati's 13-10 win against Rutgers. Huber pinned the Scarlet Knights on their 3-, 11- and 12-yard lines to start three fourth-quarter drives and forced Rutgers to an average starting field position of its own 17-yard line for the game.
The 2007 Consensus All-America selection previously earned a weekly league honor on Oct. 8, 2007.
The Bearcats lead the NCAA FBS in net punting, averaging 43.29 yard per punt.
Chazz Anderson (Pickerington, Ohio/Central) and Connor Barwin (Hazel Park, Mich./U. of Detroit Jesuit) were named to the conference's weekly honor roll for their performances against the Scarlet Knights.
Anderson was 21-of-29 for 239 yards and a rushing touchdown while Barwin had four tackles, including two sacks and 2.5 tackles for loss.
UC (5-1, 1-0 BIG EAST), winners of four-straight games, returns to action on Oct. 25, hitting the road to face BIG EAST foe UConn at Rentschler Field. Kickoff is scheduled for noon and the game will be televised on the BIG EAST Network.
The game can be seen on WKRC-TV (Channel 12) in Cincinnati, WKEF-TV (Channel 22) in Dayton, and on ESPN Game Plan nationwide.
West Virginia's Noel Devine (Offense) and Louisville's Johnny Patrick (Defense) were the other BIG EAST award winners this week.
