CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati women's soccer team lost, 1-0, in double overtime to Georgetown on Sunday at Gettler Stadium in the 2008 regular season finale. Cincinnati (9-6-3, 5-3-3) finished as the fifth seed in the National Division of the BIG EAST Conference and will travel to St. John's, the fourth seed of the American Division, for a 7 p.m. match on Thursday, Oct. 30 in the BIG EAST Championship.

"This is a disappointing end to our regular season," said first-year head coach Michelle Salmon. "But we've had a great season. All teams are undefeated now going into the BIG EAST Championship and that's where we turn our focus. As one chapter of our season ends, another chapter begins. We will focus on the BIG EAST Championship and we're excited to get that underway."

The Bearcats kept Georgetown (13-3-2, 8-3-0) from scoring in regulation, despite a 12-4 shot advantage by the Hoyas . Georgetown's Samantha Baker launched 35-yard throw-ins that the Hoyas were able to get their heads on, and eight corner kicks to UC's one forced the Bearcats defense to step up.

UC outshot Georgetown in the first overtime period and nearly scored with seven seconds remaining when Lindsey Noteboom (Hurst, Texas/Birdville) served up a free kick into the box that Julie Morrissey (Abington, Mass./Tabor Academy) nearly headed into the goal.

In the 106th minute Georgetown's Baker took a corner kick from the left side that a streaking Michaela Baker headed into the left side of the goal, giving the Hoyas the 1-0 victory.

Cincinnati's Andreak Kaminski (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville) finished with six saves in goal for the Bearcats.

UC advances to the BIG EAST Championship as the fifth seed of the National Division, taking on St. John's, the fourth seed of the American Division, in the Bearcats first trip to the BIG EAST Championship.

"As we prepare for St. John's, our emphasis won't change," said Salmon. "We are still going to play Cincinnati soccer. St. John's is a good opponent, but we also know we are a good team and we know if we play our game, good things can happen."
