PROVIDENCE, R.I. - After helping the University of Cincinnati's volleyball team extend its winning streak to 10 matches, senior Jessica Elley (Gilbert, Ariz./Gilbert) was named the BIG EAST Volleyball Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday, Oct. 27. The honor marks the second time in Elley's career that she has been named BIG EAST Volleyball Player of the Week.

Elley opened the week recording seven kills and six digs in a three-set win over Morehead State. At Syracuse, Elley carried the Bearcats to a miraculous come-from-behind triumph. The Gilbert, Ariz. native tied a career-high with 24 kills en route to hitting .396. Elley put down five kills in the fifth set, spearheading a comeback from which the Bearcats faced deficits of 8-1 and 13-7. In the final contest of the week at Marquette, Elley recorded a team-high 13 kills and hit at a .409 clip, along with four service aces. For the week, Elley hit .395.

The other time Elley earned BIG EAST Volleyball Player of the Week honors was on Sept. 4, 2006, after she was named the MVP of the Radisson Hotel Invitational hosted by Bradley University.

Elley and the Bearcats welcome USF and Georgetown for a pair of BIG EAST matches this weekend. Cincinnati and USF meet at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 31, before it closes out the weekend with a 2 p.m. showdown with Georgetown on Sunday, Nov. 2. Both Georgetown and USF enter the weekend with 5-3 BIG EAST records.
