BRONX, N.Y. - The University of Cincinnati's men's and women's cross country teams are set to compete at the 2008 BIG EAST Championships at Van Cortlandt Park in Bronx, N.Y., on Friday, Oct. 31. The women's race is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m., while the men's race will follow at 11:10 a.m.
Van Cortlandt Park - 1,146 acres atop the ridges and valleys of the northwest Bronx - is New York City's fourth largest park. Van Cortlandt is home to the country's first public golf course, the oldest house in the Bronx, and the borough's largest freshwater lake.
The women's team is coming off a 30th-place finish at the Pre-Nationals meet in Terre Haute, Ind. Sophomore Lilian Jelimo has been the top runner for the women's team this season as she has registered four first-place finishes, a second-place finish, and an impressive 35th-place finish in a talented field at the Pre-Nationals Meet. Last season, the women's team finished in ninth place at the BIG EAST Championships.
The men's team has had a solid season to this point highlighted by first-place finishes at the Queen City Invitational, the Mel Brodt Invitational, and the Ohio Invitational. Cincinnati has had four different runners register top finishes for the team this season, which includes seniors Bill Keckeis and Randy King, and juniors Tommy Morgan and Solomon Kessio. Last season, the men's team finished in eighth place at the BIG EAST Championships.
The reigning BIG EAST Cross Country champions are Louisville (men) and West Virginia (women).
