CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati women's basketball program has signed Indianapolis native Daress McClung (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence North) to a National Letter of Intent, second-year head coach J. Kelley Hall announced today (Nov. 12).

McClung, a two-year letterwinner at Lawrence North High School, will continue her academic and athletic career at UC beginning with the 2009-10 school year. McClung, a 6-0 guard/forward, averaged 14 points, 9.2 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 3.0 steals, and 3.0 blocks per game as a junior for head coach Jodie Whitaker. She helped he Wildcats to conference and sectional titles during her sophomore season. On the AAU circuit, she won a state title with the Indiana Elite squad in 2007-08, posting a 44-2 record throughout the course of the season. She was named to three consecutive Indianapolis All-North teams and was an Indiana Junior All-Star in 2007-08.

"Daress brings us toughness and the versatility to play two positions," said Hall. "She can shoot the three and put the ball on the floor and she is a great passer. She is a relentless competitor, an outstanding rebounder, and a student of the game."

A versatile student-athlete, McClung is also a two-year letterwinner in softball and holds 3.5 GPA. She is the daughter of Jesse and Theresa McClung and has an older brother, Jesse.

Wednesday, Nov. 12 marks the first day Division I schools can officially sign prospects for the upcoming 2009-10 season. The Bearcats expect to sign one more student-athlete in the early signing period. The spring signing period begins on April 15, 2009.

The Bearcats open the 2008-09 regular season on Friday, Nov. 14, in Fifth Third Arena when they welcome Detroit at 7 p.m.
