CINCINNATI - Coming off sixth- and ninth-place finishes, respectively, at the BIG EAST Cross Country Championships on Oct. 31, the University of Cincinnati's men's and women's cross country teams travel to West Lafayette, Ind., to compete at the Great Lakes Regional Meet on Saturday, Nov. 15. The women's 6,000-meter races is set to begin at 11 a.m. (ET), while the men's 10,000-meter race will follow at 11:45 a.m. (ET).
Both teams will be running on the Varsity Cross Country Course on the campus of Purdue University. The course is relatively flat for the opening 2k. For the men the 2k to the 5k is going to be hilly while the women will be hilly from the 2k to the 3k. From there to the finish the course is relatively flat which should produce some great racing. The Varsity Cross Country Course served as the host course for the 2001 Indiana Intercollegiates, the 2002 Big Ten Championships and the 2002 NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championships.
At the BIG EAST Championships two weeks ago, freshman Eric Finan (New Richmond, Ohio/New Richmond) turned in the top time for the Bearcats with a 28th-place time of 25:28 in the 8,000-meter race. Sophomore Lilian Jelimo (Kapsebet, Kenya/Kapsabet Girls) earned the top finish for the women's team with a 25th-place showing, crossing the line in a time of 21:24.
