CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati swimming and diving team split a pair of dual meets with BIG EAST rival Pittsburgh Saturday at the Keating Aquatics Center. The men won 164-135 while the women fell 182.5-117.5.
The men featured wins in one relay and 11 individual events with Jeremy Peter (Obernai, France/Lycee Freppel) and Josh Schneider (Cincinnati, Ohio/Taylor) winning three events apiece.
Peter won the 100-yard backstroke (50.84), 100 breaststroke (58.70), and the 200 backstroke (1:51.88), while Schneider touched in first in the 50 freestyle (20.34), 100 freestyle (45.60), and the 100-yard butterfly (49.77).
Peter and Schneider teamed with Patryk Wakula (Zabre, Poland/Somsit) and Rob Langford (Mason, Ohio/St. Xavier) to win the 200-medley relay in 1:33.17. Wakula also took first place in the 200 butterfly (1:51.49) and was second to Schneider in the 100 butterfly (50:32). Jakub Carda (Brno, Czech Repulic/Sportovni Gymnasium) was second in the 200 butterfly (1:53.59) and won the 200 breaststroke (2:08.99)
Nate Kramer (Cincinnati, Ohio/New Richmond) won the 1,000-yard freestyle (9:48.86) and was third in the 500 freestyle (4:44.69). Stephen Cunningham (Dublin, Ireland/Terenure College) placed second in both events (4:42.67/9:51.30).
Nathan Williams (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) won the 1,000 freestyle (4:40.58) and the 200 freestyle (1:42.37).
Elinore de Jong (Bussum, Netherlands/Goois Lyceum) won a pair of events and participated in two winning relays to lead the women's squad. De Jong took first in the 100 freestyle (51.77) and 50 freestyle (23.92). She teamed with Liz Hansson (Lund, Sweden/St. Petri), Emma Misanik (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover), and Lange Gilby (Cleves, Ohio/Taylor) to take first in the 200-medley relay in 1:46.74.
The 400-freestyle relay quartet of de Jong, Amy Billow (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mercy), Gilby, and Hansson set a KAC pool record with their time of 3:29.88. That time broke the previous record of 3:35.82, set in 2006 by Pittsburgh and also broke the UC pool record of 3:31.12, set in 2000.
Kirtley Krombholz (Cincinnati, Ohio/Indian Hill) won the 3-meter diving event with 288.80 points and was second in the 1-meter diving (266.25).
Misanik also won the 100 breaststroke (1:06.30).
The Bearcats are back into action from Nov. 21-23, taking part in the Indiana Invitational in Bloomington, Ind. UC will not have a home meet until Jan. 16, 2009 when the Miami (OH) RedHawks come to town for a 6 p.m. meet at the Keating Aquatics Center.
