Nov. 17, 2008

LEXINGTON, Ky. -In the Nov. 17 release of the Bison/AVCA Division I Top 25 Coaches Poll, the University of Cincinnati's volleyball team received 13 votes, the American Volleyball Coaches Association announced today. It is the third consecutive week that UC has received votes in the poll.

A three-set win over Rutgers on Sunday, Nov. 16, coupled with a St. John's loss to DePaul, gave Cincinnati a share of the BIG EAST regular-season championship, the program's first conference championship since joining the BIG EAST in 2005.

UC owns a 25-5 overall record and a 12-2 BIG EAST mark. The Bearcats' 25 wins are the most since the 2003 Cincinnati team won 27 games, and Cincinnati's 12 BIG EAST wins are the most conference wins since joining the conference.

The Bearcats have won 15 straight matches, which is tied for the second longest winning streak in school history. The 1999 team won a program-best 16 straight matches. The Top 10 teams in the Bison/AVCA Division I Top 25 Coaches Poll remained the same as last week, but the big mover of the week was Minnesota, who jumped from No. 15 to No. 12. Hawai'i, who Cincinnati played earlier this season, stayed at No. 6.

Cincinnati heads to Fitzgerald Field House in Pittsburgh, Pa., to compete in the BIG EAST Conference Championship, Nov. 21-23. The Bearcats are the No. 2 seed entering the tournament, and UC plays No. 7 seed Pittsburgh in the quarterfinal round at 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 21.
