The University of Cincinnati Swimming and Diving team faces a pair of dual meet challenges this weekend as the Bearcats prep for meets at Ohio State Friday and against West Virginia Saturday.
The Bearcats' meet against the Buckeyes is scheduled for a 5 p.m. start at McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. UC opens up the home portion of the schedule on Saturday, taking on BIG EAST rival West Virginia at noon at the Keating Aquatic Center.
The men's team was paced by Jeremy Peter and Josh Schneider in its first meet of the season as each won individual events at the Golden Grizzley Quadrangular on Oct. 26.
Peter won the 200-yard backstroke event, besting the field with a 2:07.36 clocking and also won the 200 IM in 1:53.19. Peter was also third in the 100 backstroke with a time of 51.61. Schneider won the men's 50-yard freestyle with a time of 20.40. He was also second in the 100 freestyle, clocking in at 45.98. He also placed second in the 100 butterfly (50.74).
Liz Hansson, Amy Billow, Elinore de Jong, and Lange Gilby eared a UC win the 400-freestyle relay with a time of 3:33.36 at the Golden Grizzley meet.
Thursday, UC took part in the Third-Annual Ted Mullin Hour of Power Relay, sponsored by the Carleton College swimming and diving teams is in honor of former teammate Edward H. "Ted" Mullin, who passed away from a rare soft-tissue cancer in September 2006.
The 'Hour of Power' is a practice consisting of continuous relays, using any stroke, all-out swimming for an hour. An ultimate goal of the 'Hour of Power' is to promote team spirit and generate awareness of cancer and its impact on the lives on young adults.
UC joined nearly 80 college swimming programs nationwide taking part in the event. As part of the Bearcats continued commitment to the event, UC will accept donations from fans at Saturday's meet against West Virginia.

Memo: "Ted Mullin Hour of Power"
Since the inaugural event in 2006, the Hour of Power has raised more than $54,000.
Funds raised during the event act as seed funding for the University of Chicago pediatric sarcoma research program, allowing collaborative efforts between clinicians and physician-scientists in the identification of the causes of sarcoma, at the most basic molecular and cellular levels.
