COLUMBUS - The University of Cincinnati swimming and diving team dropped a pair of dual meets to Ohio State Friday at McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion.
The men's team fell 142-112, while the women's squad dropped a 146-112 decision to the Buckeyes. Despite the dual-meet loss, the Bearcats had several outstanding performances from individuals and relay groups.
Elinor de Jong took three first-place finishes, clocking in at 24.18 in the 50 freestyle, 52.05 in the 100 freestyle, and 56.30 in the 100 butterfly.
The Bearcats swept the top three places in the 200-yard freestyle relay with the quartet of Liz Hansson, Karli Kentner, Lange Gilby, and Amy Billow touching in at 1:37.96. Bree Rossi, Anna Bersani, Laurie Caudy, and Emma Misanik were second in 1:42.25, and Joanne Gribler, Cassie Dorl, Natalie Plunkett, and Allison Griffin were third in 1:51.42.
For the men's squad, Josh Schneider and Jeremy Peter both earned a pair of first-place finishes apiece.
Schneider took firsts in the 50 freestyle (20.28), and 100 freestyle (45.52), while Peter took firsts in the 200 breaststroke (2:04.04), and the 200 IM (1:52.75).
The men's team also took the top four spots in the 200-freestyle relay. The foursome of Nick Saul, Natahn Williams, Stephen Cunningham, and Tim Kasberg clocked in first at 1:28.54. Matt Hays, Andrew Birnbrich, Brad Langford, and Nate Kramer were second (1:28.84) while Mark Talma, Britton Van Dissel, Amos Yeung, and Matt Hargrove were third (1:32.23). Brandon Metzler, Max Geiger, Logan White, and Shea Walkley were fourth (1:33.14).
UC opens up the home portion of the schedule on Saturday, taking on BIG EAST rival West Virginia at noon at the Keating Aquatic Center.
