12-1-08 Bison/AVCA Division I Top 25 Coaches Poll
LEXINGTON, Ky. - Following a three-set sweep over UAB on Friday, Nov. 28, the University of Cincinnati volleyball team received votes in the Dec. 1 Bison/AVCA Division I Top 25 Coaches poll, the American Volleyball Coaches Association announced today. This is the fourth time this season that Cincinnati has earned votes in the weekly poll.
On Sunday, Nov. 31, the Bearcats were one of 33 at-large teams selected to compete in the 64-team NCAA Tournament. UC will face Western Kentucky, who is receiving eight votes in the latest poll, in a rematch of an Oct. 14 match-up where Cincinnati defeated Western Kentucky in four sets in Bowling Green, Ky. The Bearcats and Lady Toppers play at 5 p.m. (CT) at Huff Hall in Champaign, Ill., on Friday, Dec. 5.
The other match-up at the Champaign, Ill., site will be the No. 9 seed Illinois Fighting Illinois vs. the Wisconsin-Milwaukee Panthers. The winner of the Cincinnati/Western Kentucky match will play the winner of the Illinois/Wisconsin-Milwaukee match at 7 p.m. (CT) on Saturday, Dec. 6.
Two Bearcat opponents from earlier this season, Hawai'i and Minnesota, enter the NCAA Tournament ranked sixth and 10th, respectively, in the latest Bison/AVCA poll.
