CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati Department of Athletics announced today that a memorial for former UC baseball coach and longtime Cincinnati Reds official scorer Glenn Sample will be held at 6:30 p.m. at Fifth Third Arena on Monday, Dec. 8. The memorial is open to the public.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and those wishing to attend should enter Fifth Third Arena from the East Concourse. Members of the UC staff, the Cincinnati Reds organization, and several of Sample's close friends will speak on his behalf.

Parking will be available at Corry Garage, which is located directly across from Marge Schott Stadium.

Sample coached the Bearcats for 21 years, amassing a 391-331-7 record. He directed UC to four NCAA Tournament appearances and two Missouri Valley Conference titles, while sending more than 50 players on to the professional ranks. Alongside his baseball responsibilities, Sample also served as UC's wrestling coach and assistant athletics director during his tenure. Sample was inducted into the University of Cincinnati Hall of Fame in 1982 and his No. 1 is one of two numbers retired by the UC baseball program.

Sample also served as the Cincinnati Reds official scorekeeper since 1979 and the 2009 season would have been his 30th in the Reds press box.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to your favorite charity in Glenn's memory. Condolences may also be expressed to the family online at www.rebold.com.
