CINCINNATI - The Skyline Chili Women's Crosstown Shootout returns to Fifth Third Arena on Dec. 7, 2008, when the University of Cincinnati women's basketball team welcomes Xavier for a 2 p.m. tipoff.
The Departments of Athletics at both schools have joined forces to promote women's sports in the Cincinnati area with this year's theme: Celebrate Women's Sports - Proud Past, Bright Future.
Thanks to the efforts of former Bearcat student-athlete and UC supporter Bill Keating, the last time the game was played in Fifth Third Arena resulted in a sellout and the largest crowd to witness a regular-season women's basketball game in Cincinnati history.
Tickets are available at the door or in advance by calling 1-877-CATS-TIX. Adult tickets are $7, with youth tickets (12 and under) $5. Groups of 10 or more will be admitted for $3 per person. UC and XU students will be admitted free with a valid student ID. As of Monday, over 10,000 tickets have been sold.
With the generous support of sponsors such as Skyline Chili, Fifth Third Bank, Kendle International, Total Quality Logistics, and Cintas, the annual Women's Crosstown Shootout has become the premier women's athletics event in the area.
Special promotions for the 2008 Skyline Chili Women's Crosstown Shootout include 1,000 commemorative posters, compliments of TQL, and complimentary UC skullcaps to the first 500 fans in attendance.
Pregame and postgame autograph signings allow fans to meet and greet with UC and Xavier student-athletes. Prior to the game, student-athletes from each of UC and Xavier's varsity women's sports programs will sign autographs on the concourse. Following the game, the UC women's basketball team will be available to sign autographs and take pictures with fans.
Former UC student-athletes and Olympians Mary Wineberg, Jenny Kemp, Becky Ruehl will be recognized at halftime.
The Bearcats snapped a three-game losing streak to their crosstown rival in head coach J. Kelley Hall's first season, winning by a 61-55 count at XU's Cintas Center on Dec. 1, 2007.
Cincinnati is looking to retain the Kendle Cup, the traveling trophy awarded to the winner of the annual Skyline Chili Women's Crosstown Shootout. The Kendle Cup, which was created pror to the 2006-07 shootout, is based on the concept of bridging the pioneers of the UC and XU women's basketball programs to the game today. It is intended to recognize the accomplishments of all female athletes and celebrate the evolution of women's athletics through the region's premiere rivalry. The trophy captures the winner and score of the game from year to year and incorporates the Kendle logo. It is currently on display in a trophy case in the Richard E. Lindner Center atrium.
The game will be broadcast live on Fox Sports Net Ohio. Check your local listings for channel and availability.
