CINCINNATI - University of Cincinnati cross country runner's Brian Berling (Cincinnati/Elder) and Tamara Masters (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview) have been named the Department of Athletics top scholar-athletes of the winter quarter after both individuals earned perfect 4.0 grade point averages (GPA).
A total of 17 student-athletes, representing each of UC's sports, were named scholar-athletes of the quarter and the contingent will have their photos added to the Academic Wall of Fame in its new location just outside the Nancy Hamant Academic Center on the fifth floor of the Richard E. Lindner Center.
In addition to Berling and Masters, cross country runner Kyle Dragan (Cincinnati/LaSalle), women's golfer Marianne Erb (Cincinnati/Anderson), women's soccer players Lisa Clark (Alexandria, Va./T.C. Williams) and Kim Sykes (Cincinnati/Sycamore), women's swimmer Natalie Plunkett (Cincinnati/Lakota East), and track and field athletes Brian Berling, Jason Berling (Cincinnati/Elder), Kyle Dragan, Boudine Bouma (Purmerend, Netherlands/DaVinci College), Michelle Eby (Huber Heights, Ohio/Wayne), and Tamara Masters (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview) all earned 4.0 GPA's during the fall.
A total of 254 student-athletes were named to either the Bearcat or the Topcat Honor Roll. To qualify for the Bearcat Honor Roll, a student-athlete must have earned a grade point average between 3.0 and 3.49 for the quarter, while Topcat honorees must maintain between a 3.5 and a 4.0 GPA.
