CINCINNATI - University of Cincinnati assistant head coach/defensive line Keith Gilmore has accepted a position coaching the defensive line at the University of Illinois, head coach Brian Kelly announced Tuesday.

Gilmore spent two seasons with the Bearcats, coaching a pair of all-America selections in defensive end Connor Barwin and defensive tackle Terrill Byrd.

"We certainly appreciate Keith's efforts coaching our defensive line the past two seasons," Kelly said. "We wish him and his family nothing but the best in their new endeavor."

Cincinnati finished 31st in the nation in total defense (321.9 yards a game), 19th in run defense (115) and led the Big East in sacks (2.86).

Prior to joining the UC staff, Gilmore coached at coached at Central Michigan, Norfolk State, Michigan State, Northern Michigan, Grand Valley State, Wayne State and Eastern Michigan.

A national search for his replacement will begin immediately.
