CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati tennis team lost a 7-0 decision to Marshall, Sunday at the Western Tennis and Fitness Club.
UC was within two games in all three of the doubles matches. Valeriya Dandik and Kesnia Slynko fell 9-7 to Kellie Schmitt and Karolina Soor at No. 1 doubles. The No. 2 squad of Jennifer Rowan and Elizabeth Young dropped their match 9-8 to Deanna Bailey and Jessica Keener while Safiyya Ismail and Jessica Wise also lost a 9-8 match to Thaddea Lock and Catherine Kellner at No. 3.
In singles play, Slynko fell 6-2, 6-2 to Schmitt at No. 1, Rowen lost 6-1, 6-1 to Isabell Raich at No. 2, and Dandik suffered a 6-1, 6-2 defeat to Soor in the No. 3 slot. At No. 4 singles, Ismail narrowly missed a first-set win, losing 7-5, 6-0 to Bailey. Wise lost 6-2, 6-1 to Keener at No. 5, and Young was knocked off 6-0, 6-2 by Kellner.
UC (1-2) returns to the court Sunday against Akron at 4 p.m. The match will take place at the Western Tennis and Fitness Club. The facility is located at 5490 Muddy Creek Road in Cincinnati. For more information on the facility, go to www.westerntfc.com.
