CEDARVILLE, Ohio -- Two University of Cincinnati women's soccer players earned All-Ohio honors from the Ohio Collegiate Soccer Association. Senior Kristin May (Hudson, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) was named to the first-team while classmate Kim Sykes (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore) was honored with a second-team selection.
May, a midfielder, was named to the 2008 All-BIG EAST Conference Women's Soccer Second Team. She finished the season with 13 points, scoring five goals and notching a team-high three assists. May scored two game-winning goals, one in UC's 2-1 victory at DePaul and the other coming in her two-goal performance in UC's 2-1 win over Villanova. She was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll three times in 2008.
Sykes, a senior defender and three-year team captain, is a three-time College Sports Information Director's of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District honoree. She started every game of her four-year career on the UC backline and scored one goal and two assists as a defender. Sykes was named all-Ohio honorable mention as a freshman.
"This is a well deserved award for both Kristin May and Kim Sykes," said head coach Michelle Salmon. "As seniors they were instrumental in our success this past year. Kristin and Kim have paved a strong foundation of success and expectations for future players here at Cincinnati. We could not be more proud of how both of these players represent our program, our university and our city."
The duo helped to guide the University of Cincinnati women's soccer program to its highest finish in the BIG EAST regular season, its best overall record (10-7-3) since the 2002 season, and a BIG EAST Women's Soccer Championship Quarterfinal appearance.
The OCSA serves 49 Ohio colleges and universities at all three levels of NCAA affiliation and the NAIA. Voting was done by OCSA member coaches.
