CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. - University of Cincinnati head women's golf coach Janet Carl has been named the 2008 recipient of the National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) Founders Award. The award is presented annually to a currently employed women's collegiate head or assistant coach and the criteria for selection is based solely on service for the past 12 months - the 2008 calendar year.
Carl's service contribution in 2008 included hosting the BIG EAST Conference Championship in April and serving as the Vice President of the BIG EAST Coaches Association, where she spearheaded the conference championship committee to locate future neutral sites for the BIG EAST Conference. She also served as the Vice President of the LPGA Midwest Section along with hosting and running the LPGA Midwest Section Championship in August.
In 2008, the men's and women's golf teams participated in more than 100 hours of community service to local organizations. Community service organizations that the golf programs worked with include the Assistance League of Greater Cincinnati, Adopt-A-Family, Winton Woods School, American Cancer Society, and Children's Hospital.
Carl was named the LPGA Midwest Section Coach of the Year for 2008 and was the LPGA National Coach of the Year in 2006.
The National Golf Coaches Association, founded in 1983, is a non-profit organization representing women's collegiate golf coaches. The NGCA was formed to encourage the playing of college golf for women in correlation with a general objective of education and in accordance with the highest tradition of intercollegiate competition. Today, the NGCA represents nearly 500 coaches throughout the U.S. and is dedicated to educating, promoting and recognizing both its members and the student-athletes they represent.
