CINCINNATI - After capturing its fourth national title in the past six years in the Hip-Hop Division at the 2009 Universal Dance Association - College Cheerleading and Dance Team National Championship in January, the University of Cincinnati Dance has been selected to represent the United States at the inaugural International Cheer Union World Championships in Orlando, Fla., on April 24, 2009.

The team was selected by USA Cheer, the national governing body, from a pool of universities based on its overall ability and talent to compete in the three dance genres - hip-hop, jazz, and freestyle. The dance team also finished fourth at this year's the national championships in jazz competition. They earned their prior hip-hop championships in 2004, 2005, and 2006.

"We are proud and excited about the opportunity for our dance team," said Director of Athletics Mike Thomas. "All of their hard work and dedication this season has paid off. They now have the great honor of representing the United States on a world-wide stage in April and a chance to bring home a world title."

The UC Dance team will be competing against 25-30 other countries in the World Championships.

The dance teams will continue to be in action at all men's and women's home basketball games for the balance of the 2008-09 season.

Highlights from the U.S. Nationals will be shown on ESPN on various dates throughout early 2009. A complete schedule can be found here.
