The University of Cincinnati swimming and diving teams head to Indianapolis, Ind. on Wednesday for the BIG EAST Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving Championships, which run through Feb. 21. The league meet will be held at the IU Natatorium on the campus of IUPUI for the first time. The past 10 championships were held at East Meadow, N.Y., in the Nassau County Aquatic Center.
Diving preliminaries kick things off at noon on Wednesday with relays set for a 6 p.m. start. Prelims begin at 10 a.m. Thursday-Saturday with finals hitting the pool at 6 p.m. each day. Only swimmers who met the conference standards qualified for competition in Indianapolis.
A pair of swimmers, Jeremy Peter, and Josh Schneider, are defending league champions in the 200 IM, and 50 freestyle, respectively. Entering the meet, Peter is the No. 4 seed in the event with a season-best clocking of 1:49.66. He also ranks in the top five in the 200 breaststroke (4th/2:00.38) and is seeded eighth in the 100 backstroke (50.22) Schneider is the top seed in the 50 freestyle (19.38), ranked No. 2 in the 100 freestyle event (43.48), and fourth in the 100 butterfly (48.64).
Jakub Carda holds the No. 2 seed in the 400 IM with his season-best time of 3:56.20.
