PROVIDENCE, R.I. - After shattering the school record, breaking the Malcolm Athletics Center record, and setting a NCAA Provisional mark in the pentathlon at the All-Ohio Invitational Feb. 13-14 in Findlay, Ohio, junior Jasmine Cotten was named the BIG EAST Field Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced on Wednesday, Feb. 18.
Cincinnati placed first at the All-Ohio Invitational on Feb. 14 and was led by Cotten's pentathlon performance. Cotten won the 60-meter hurdles (8.84), the high jump (5'-9.25"), the long jump (19'-5.25"), and placed second in the shot put (37'-5.25") to win the event with 3,958 points. Cotten's mark broke Ashley Wilhelm's school-record mark of 3,788 set in 2006. Cotten's mark also was an NCAA provisional mark and is the 12th-best performance in the NCAA this season in the pentathlon. In addition, the junior's mark is second best in the conference this season.
The Bearcats head to New York, N.Y. to compete in the BIG EAST Championships Feb. 21-22. Events begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 21.
