INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Three University of Cincinnati school records fell in preliminary action on day three of the 2009 BIG EAST Swimming and Diving Championships at the IU Natatorium on the campus of IUPUI.
Josh Schneider continued his record-setting meet, setting his second school and meet record of the championship. The junior clocked a meet- and school-record time of 47.47 in the 100-yard butterfly preliminary, winning his heat and earning the top seed in the championship final Friday night. He also reached the NCAA 'B' standard in the event. The previous UC mark of 47.53 was set by Ryan McNally in 2002 and the BIG EAST meet record of 47.62 was set a year ago by Adam Madarassy. Schneider set meet, and school records and hit the NCAA 'A' standard in the 50 freestyle on Thursday.
Jeremy Peter, swimming in the final heat of the morning session, clocked a UC-record time of 49.01 in the 100 backstroke to eclipse the previous UC mark of 49.50, set in 1997 by Honza Vitazka. Peter placed second in the heat and is the third seed in Friday night's championship final. Louisville's Carlos Van Isschot set a meet-record time of 46.92 to earn the top seed.
Karli Kentner earned the No. 6 seed in the 100 breaststroke championship final after a school-record 1:03.62 swim in the morning heats. She eclipsed the previous school mark of 1:03.63, set by Emma Gustafsson in 2003.
Elinore de Jong also hit an NCAA 'B' time cut with her 53.95 clocking in the 100-yard butterfly preliminaries. She will be the No. 2 seed in the championship final.
Jakub Carda made the championship final of the 400 IM with a time of 3:54.39, winning his heat, and earning the No. 4 seed.
Rob Langford swam 56.57 in the 100 breaststroke prelims to earn the top seed in the consolation final.
Stephen Cunningham (1:39.40), and Nick Saul (1:40.10) both won their heats, and earned spots in the consolation final of the 200 freestyle.
