CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati women's tennis team improved its season record to 5-4 and equaled its win total from last season by knocking off Youngstown State University, 6-1, in a non-conference match-up at the Boardman Tennis Center.
The Bearcats opened the match with a sweep of the doubles point, 3-0. The Penguins however battled the Bearcats throughout singles play. Senior Jennifer Rowen at the No. 2 spot and freshman Safiyya Ismail from the No. 5 spot each rallied from a set down for three-set wins.
Freshman Ksenia Slynko extended her win streak at the No. 1 singles spot to three, winning a straight-set victory over Youngstown State's Sarah Lynch. Slynko was able to fight through a first-set tie-break and hold off Lynch's comeback attempt in the second set.
