NEW YORK - The University of Cincinnati Women's Indoor Track and Field team finished seventh with 49 points at the BIG EAST Conference Indoor Track Meet this weekend, the highest finish and most points scored by the team at the conference championships since joining the BIG EAST in 2005-06.
UC Junior Jasmine Cotten was named the meet's Most Outstanding Field Performer. On Day 1, Cotten was the champion of the pentathlon with an NCAA-automatic qualifying score of 4,073 points. The performance shattered her school-record, which was set a week ago at the All-Ohio Championships with a score of 3,958. Within the pentathlon, Cotten finished in first-place in the high jump after clearing a height of 5' 10 1/2", which is a NCAA-provisional qualifying mark. On day two of competition, Cotten placed fifth in the high jump with a height of 5'-08.50".
Sophomore Kaylon Eppinger, who recorded an NCAA-Provisional score in the pentathlon yesterday, finished seventh in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.62.
In the 400- and 800-meter relays, the Bearcats finished fifth and sixth, respectively, with times of 3:45.03 and 8:59.93.
As a team, UC has now improved its point total at the BIG EAST Indoor Track meet each year since joining the league in 2005-06 when it scored 25 points. This year's 49 points were an improvement of 14 over last year (35.0 points).
The NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field Meet will take place March 13-14 in the McFerrin Athletic Center on the campus of Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas.
