CINCINNATI -Men's track and field senior Alex Ramsey (Canton, Ohio/Hoover) was named the winner of the 2008-09 Jean Stephens Memorial Award, which honors Jean Stephens, a 15-year member of the University of Cincinnati Department of Athletics who passed away in 1999.

Student-athletes are nominated based upon the following criteria:

· Commitment to team, department and the University

· Integrity and high ethical standards in all situations

· Respect for and equitable treatment of others

· Friendship and a positive attitude in interpersonal relationships

· A consummate team player

Ramsey majors in marketing and owns a 2.96 GPA. He is a two-time team captain for the men's track and field squad.

Ramsey has been one of the top 800 meter runners for the men's track and field team and currently ranks eighth on UC's all-time list in the event with a personal-best of 1:50.56. Last season, Ramsey was victorious in the 800 meters at the All-Ohio Championships.

"Alex is extremely honest, reliable, and ethical," said men's track and field head coach Bill Schnier. "The UC track program is fortunate to have such a student-athlete that possesses a remarkable work ethic and a tremendous strength of character."
