GREENSBORO, Ga. - The University of Cincinnati men's golf team finished 12th at the Linger Longer Invitational on Saturday (March 21) at the par-72 Reynolds Landing Golf Course.
Senior Alberto Fernandez (Gijorn, Spain/La Corolla) paced the Bearcats, shooting 76-76-78=230 to finish in a tie for 39th place.
Sophomore Joe Kastelic (Newton, N.C./Fred T. Foard) was just behind Fernandez with a 79-77-77=233, good for a share of 48th place.
Ryan Cahill (Columbus, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) posted his best finish of the year, firing an 86-74-80=240 to place 62nd.
Georgia won the team title with a 291-288-288=867 total, three over par. Oklahoma State was second, two shots back at 295-284-290=896. UC's 315-308-319=942 was three shots back of Connecticut and eight shots better than St. John's. OSU's Trent Whitekiller won the individual crown with an eight-under-par total of 74-68-66=208.
The Bearcats will return north after UC's spring break, competing in the Ball State Invitational in Muncie, Ind., on March 27-29.
