CINCINNATI- University of Cincinnati swimmer Josh Schneider will swim the first of his three races Thursday at the NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championship, set to take place from March 26-28 at the Student Rec Center Natatorium on the campus of Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas.
The junior, who won all-America honors a year ago, is scheduled to swim the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, and 100 butterfly at the Championship. He is the No. 6 seed in the 50 freestyle, seeded No. 31 in the 100 freestyle, and the No. 30 seed in the 100 butterfly.
The 50 freestyle preliminaries are the fourth event in Thursday's preliminaries, set to begin at 1 p.m. EST. The top-16 swimmers in each event qualify for the Thursday night finals, which begin at 8 p.m.
The 100 butterfly is the third event on the Friday program, while the 100 freestyle is the second event Saturday. Preliminaries begin at 1 p.m. and finals start at 8 p.m. each day.
Schneider was named BIG EAST Most Outstanding Men's Swimmer after winning three individual titles and setting three BIG EAST records at the league championship meet in February.
University of Cincinnati swimmer Josh Schneider won his second-straight BIG EAST Championship in the 50 freestyle, leading the way for UC on day two of the 2009 BIG EAST meet at the IU Natatorium on the campus of IUPUI.
He hit the NCAA 'A' standard in the 50 freestyle, an automatic qualifying time, clocking a school- and meet-record time of 19.17 in the league championship preliminaries. He won the BIG EAST title with a time of 19.38.
He won the 100-yard freestyle in a school- and meet record time of 43.08. He bettered his previous record mark of 43.14, set in preliminary action. His finals time also was an NCAA 'B' cut.
He clocked an NCAA 'B' time of 46.78 in the 100 butterfly, setting school- and meet-record times..
