TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Three University of Cincinnati women's outdoor track and field athletes participated in day one of the heptathlon at the Alabama Relays hosted at Sam Bailey Track and Field Stadium on Thursday. With four of the seven events complete, Junior Jasmine Cotten currently sits in second place, while sophomores Kaylon Eppinger and Chelsea Gerken are in sixth and ninth place, respectively.

The events completed on day one of the heptathlon were the 100 hurdles, high jump, shot put, and 200 meters.

Cotten finished first among all competitors in the high jump, clearing 5' 8-3/4", leading her to a day one score of 3,323, just 11 points behind Mississippi State's Marrissa Harris for first.

Eppinger had a solid all-around day with times of 13.90 in the 100 hurdles, and 25.79 in the 200 meters, while clearing 5' 4-1/4" in the high jump and tossing 33' 4-1/2" in the shot put. Eppinger's time of 13.90 in the 100 hurdles was good for second-place in the event.

Gerken's best events of the day came in the 100 hurdles and the shot put, recording a time of 15.81 in the hurdles and a toss of 39' 10-1/2" in the shot put.

Eppinger finished day one with a score of 3,121, while Gerken earned 2,638 points.

Competition will resume on Friday at 9:00 a.m. with the second half of the decathlon followed by the heptathletes at 10:00 a.m. The women's hammer throw will also begin at 3:00 p.m.
