Cincinnati Loses At Connecticut

STORRS, Conn. - Lindsey Marshall (Hilliard, Ohio/Ohio) scored a career-high five goals but the University of Cincinnati lacrosse team lost its BIG EAST Conference opener, 11-9, to the University of Connecticut on Friday afternoon at the George J. Sherman-Family Sports Complex.

Connecticut jumped out to a 3-0 lead before Marshall put the Bearcats on the scoreboard with nearly six minutes off the clock. The Huskies responded with three goals when Laura Simanski (Reisterstown, Md./Roland Park) found the back of the net with 14:04 remaining in the period. Connecticut scored three more goals before Marshall took an assist from Gabby Sinmaz (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Jerome) and gave the Bearcats their third goal of the game.

With a 9-3 halftime lead, Connecticut fought off six goals by the Bearcats in the second period and scored two goals to earn the win. Simanski added a goal in the second period while Natalie Starvaggi (Loveland, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) and Ali Mattingly (Davidsonville, Md./South River) each scored a goal.

Cincinnati continues its road swing with a BIG EAST contest at Syracuse on Sunday, March 29 at Noon.
