No. 8 Syracuse Defeats Cincinnati

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The University of Cincinnati lacrosse team lost, 23-7, to No. 8 Syracuse at the Carrier Dome on Sunday afternoon. Syracuse improved to 8-2 overall and 3-0 in BIG EAST play while Cincinnati is now 5-5 overall and 0-2 in BIG EAST action.

Syracuse took control of the game early, outscoring Cincinnati, 9-1, in the first 20 minutes of the game.

Lindsey Marshall (Hilliard, Ohio/Ohio) scored UC's first goal at the 28:27 mark of the first period. A goal by Lynsey Burton (Smithtown, N.Y./Ohio) and an own goal by Syracuse gave UC its three goals in the first period.

Laura Simanski (Reisterstown, Md./Roland Park), Natalie Starvaggi (Loveland, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame), Ali Mattingly (Davidsonville, Md./South River), and MacKenzie Parsons (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) each scored a goal for the Bearcats in the second period.

Syracuse outshot Cincinnati, 40-13, and held a 20-11 advantage in draw controls. Katherine Russo (Westminster, Md./Winters Mills) recorded 10 saves in goal for the Bearcats.

Cincinnati returns to Nippert Stadium for its next four games, taking on No. 9 Notre Dame in a BIG EAST contest on Friday, April 3 at 4 p.m.
