STORRS, Conn. - The University of Cincinnati women's tennis team moved to 13-7 on the year and 5-1 in the BIG EAST Conference after knocking off the University of Connecticut Saturday (March 28) with a 7-0 victory.
The Bearcats picked up the early doubles point as the teams of Ksenia Slynko/Valeriya Dandik, Jennifer Rowen/Elizabeth Young, and Safiyya Ismail/Jessica Wise won their matches 8-2, 8-7, and 8-1, respectively.
UC had to fight throughout singles action as the Huskies scored at least two points in all but two sets. The Bearcats held on to complete the sweep, winning all six matches. In the No. 1 singles spot Slynko cruised through the first set vs. Kelley LoRusso of UConn, 6-2, but needed seven points in the second set to put her away.
The victory gives the Bearcats and first-year head coach Angela Wilson 13 overall wins for the first time since 2001-02 season.
Cincinnati returns to the court Wednesday, April 1 at 3:30 p.m. at crosstown rival Xavier.
