Box Score

CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati could not overcome five errors as it fell to Bradley 8-4 in the second game of a doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Marge Schott Stadium. The Bearcats fell to 3-5 on the season, while Bradley upped its record to 3-5.

Junior Jamel Scott (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Scioto) kicked off the Bearcat half of the first inning with a triple to center field. Two batters later with runners on the corners, junior Lance Durham (Forest Park, Ohio/Roger Bacon) hit a sacrifice fly plating Scott to put UC ahead 1-0.

However, over the next two innings, seven Bradley hits coupled with three Cincinnati errors helped the Braves cross the plate eight times giving Bradley a commanding 8-1 advantage.

The Bearcats took advantage of three Brave miscues to post two runs on the board in the fourth inning. With one out, sophomore Chris Peters (Tipp City, Ohio/Tipp City) doubled down the right field line, before moving to third base on a fly out to right field. Scott came to the dish with two outs and hit a ground ball to the pitcher that was mishandled, allowing Scott to reach base and Peters to score. A failed pickoff attempt by the Braves' hurler moved Scott up ninety-feet and one batter later, an errant throw on a ground ball to the second baseman allowed Scott to score, closing the UC deficit to 8-3.

UC crept closer in the bottom of the sixth inning as sophomore Justin Riddell (Lexington, Ky./Lexington Catholic) drilled a pinch-hit double into the right-center field gap to kick things off. After moving to third base on a wild pitch, Riddell scored two batters later on a pinch-hit double down the left field line by redshirt freshman Zach Collaros (Steubenville, Ohio/Steubenville). Scott followed with a walk, giving the Bearcats runners on first and second base with one out, but a double play ended the threat as UC went into the seventh and final inning trailing 8-4.

UC threatened with runners on base in the final frame but were unable to cross the plate as UC fell to Bradley 8-4.

The Bearcats and Braves conclude their four-game series at 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 8.
