DADE CITY, Fla. - Alberto Fernandez (Gijon, Spain/La Corolla) shot a second-round 75 and the University of Cincinnati men's golf team held on to 23rd place at the Ron Smith Invitational on Saturday (March 7) at the Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club.

Fernandez' two-round total of 77-75=152 is one shot better than Joe Kastelic (Newton, N.C./Fred T. Foard), who shot a 79 in the second round and has a two-day total of 74-79=153. Fernandez is tied for 90th place, while Kastelic is in a tie for 94th through 36 holes at eight over par and nine over par, respectively.

Marquette leads the team competition with a six-under two-round total of 283-287=570. MU is led by Mike Van Sickle, who is in a tie for second at five under with a 70-69=139 36-hole total.

Leading the individuals is Matt Stauch of Florida Southern, who has posted identical rounds of 67, to post a 10-under 134 total. Van Sickle and Santiago Rivas of Texas Tech are in second at five under par.

The final round will get underway at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday morning at the Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club.
