CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati tennis team opened its final weekend of the regular season by knocking off Pittsburgh with a commanding 6-1 victory today (April 10).
The Bearcats got out to an early 1-0 lead by taking two of the three doubles matches. The teams of Jennifer Rowen/Elizabeth Young and Safiyya Ismail/Jessica Wise posted victories, scoring 8-5 and 8-3 wins, respectively.
In singles play, it was UC's experience that led the way as seniors Valeriya Dandik and Young each posted difficult victories to secure the team's 15th win of the year. Young's win extended her personal winning streak to 10 matches.
It is the first time since 1999-00 that the UC tennis team has posted 15 or more wins in a season.
UC (15-6, 6-1 BIG EAST) closes out the regular season tomorrow, Saturday on April 11 as it takes on DePaul at the Trabert-Talbert Tennis Center on Cincinnati's campus at 2 p.m..
