2009 BIG EAST Women's Tennis Championship Bracket
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The University of Cincinnati women's tennis team will open play in the 2009 BIG EAST Conference Championships in Tampa, Fla., on the campus of the University of South Florida as the No. 8 seed and take on No. 9-seed Pittsburgh Thursday, April 16 at 9 a.m., the league office announced.
The Bearcats, who finished the season 15-7 overall and 6-2 in the BIG EAST, look to extend their first season under head coach and Cincinnati native Angela Wilson. UC finished the season winning seven of its last eight matches to reach 15 wins for the first time since the 1999-00 season.
"I am very excited for the team to be headed to the BIG EAST Championship," said Wilson. "This was one of our team goals at the beginning of the year since the team did not make it last season.
"It's exciting for the women on the team, the program, and UC. We will not be satisfied just to go to the BIG EAST Championships. We are preparing this week to win matches."
With a win in the opening round, the Bearcats would face No. 1 overall seed Notre Dame on Friday in the second round of the double-elimination tournament.
