CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati Dance Team, which was selected to represent the United States as Team USA at the inaugural International Cheer Union World Championships, will be showcasing their routine for the general public on Sunday, April 19th, at 2 p.m. at Purcell Marian High School.
The team, which in January won its fourth national title in the past six years, was selected by USA Cheer, the national governing body of cheerleading, from a pool of universities based on its overall ability and talent to compete in the three dance genres - hip-hop, jazz, and freestyle. The Bearcats dance team will be taking their hip-hop and jazz routine that Bearcats fans are familiar with and adding in a new Pom routine, which they will ultimately be performing at the World Championships.
Fans are encouraged to watch all three routines being showcased in preparation for the competition where they will face 41 other countries in Orlando, Fla., on April 24th, 2009.
"It is with an overwhelming amount of pride that we will end our year on an international stage competing as the first ever Team USA Dance," said head coach Lisa Spears. "I am confident that we will represent our country to the best of our ability and I believe we can bring home a gold medal."
The show will last approximately one hour. Purcell Marian is located at 2935 Hackberry Street, Cincinnati, Ohio 45206. Admission is free.
