Louisville Tops Cincinnati

CINCINNATI - Lindsey Marshall (Hilliard, Ohio/Ohio) and Laura Simanski (Reisterstown, Md./Roland Park) each scored two goals for the University of Cincinnati lacrosse team but Louisville earned a 10-7 victory over the Bearcats on Wednesday night at Nippert Stadium in BIG EAST action.

Louisville (8-5, 2-4 BIG EAST) streaked out to a 5-0 lead in the first 14 minutes of play before Natalie Starvaggi (Loveland, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) found the back of the net for UC (5-9, 0-6 BIG EAST) with 15:50 left in the first period. Simanski tallied her first goal at the 14:47 mark before the Cardinals scored a goal with two tenths of a second left in the period to take a 6-2 advantage into the half.

Marshall, who was honored prior to the game as the first senior in UC lacrosse history, started the scoring in the second period for the Bearcats and the two teams traded goals over the next nine minutes. Ali Mattingly's (Davidsonville, Md./South River) goal at the 19:15 mark started a string of three goals for UC, bringing the Bearcats within one, 8-7. The Cardinals responded with two unanswered goals to take home the victory, 10-7.

Marshall and Simanski each added a goal in the second period while Jenn Doran (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) scored her fifth goal of the season off a feed from Lynsey Burton (Smithtown, N.Y./Ohio) for the Bearcats.

UC plays next at Georgetown on Saturday, April 18 at 1 p.m.
