BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The University of Cincinnati men's soccer team continued its solid play this spring with a pair of 0-0 draws against good competition at the Indiana Spring Tournament on Wednesday (April 15) night at Armstrong Stadium.
UC drew with IUPUI in the first match of the evening. The best first-half scoring chance saw Mark Konitsch (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence Senior) fire a free kick over the goal. Judson McKinney (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy) was the catalyst in the second half, pushing the pace and winning balls in the midfield. McKinney had a chance to win it late, but his attempt from just outside of the box was wide of the mark.
Matt Williams (Portland, Maine/Cheverus) and Miguel Rosales (Aurora, Colo./Smoky Hill) split the shutout for the Bearcats.
In the second match, the Bearcats and host Hoosiers played to a scoreless draw in a well-played match. An early run into the UC 18-yard box by Indiana's Will Bruin was spoiled by a sliding tackle from Rosales, deflecting the ball wide.
The Hoosiers held a 10-5 edge in shots, but UC's chances were dangerous, but did not result in shots. Rosales and Williams again combined for the shutout, UC's fifth in six spring contests.
The Bearcats hit the road for matches against Memphis and Rio Grande on Saturday, April 18, at the Kentucky Spring Tournament in Lexington, Ky.
