TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Cincinnati women's tennis team was knocked off by the University of Pittsburgh, 4-3, today (April 16) in the first round of the BIG EAST Tennis Championship being held this weekend at the University of South Florida.
UC scored the first point of the match as it took two of the three doubles matches. The senior pair of Elizabeth Young and Jennifer Rowen, picked up an 8-6 victory in the No. 2 match, while freshmen Jessica Wise and Safiyya Ismail posted an 8-4 victory in the No. 3 doubles.
In singles play, Pittsburgh rallied for the overall win, taking four of the six matches. UC's No. 1 singles player Ksenia Slynko and No. 3 Valeriya Dandik earned the wins for UC, winning 6-2, 6-2 and 7-5, 7-5, respectively.
The Bearcats will next take on No. 12-seed Connecticut Friday evening at 3 p.m. in the consolation round of the double elimination championship.
