TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Cincinnati women's tennis team dominated the University of Connecticut, 7-0, today (April 17) to advance to the third round of the BIG EAST Conference Women's Tennis Championships at the University of South Florida.
The Bearcats tallied the first point of the match winning each of the three doubles matches. The No. 1 team of Ksenia Slynko and Valeriya Dandik won their match 8-6, while the No. 2 team of Elizabeth Young and Jennifer Rowen cruised to an 8-1 victory. The freshmen tandem of Safiyya Ismail and Jessica Wise pulled out a squeaker in the No. 3 spot winning 9-8 (1) in a tiebreak.
In singles action, the Bearcats won four of the six matches in straight sets, while Dandik and Wise each needed three sets to knock off their opponents.
This was UC's second shutout victory over Connecticut this season. They beat the Huskies 7-0 on March 28 as part of a seven-match win streak.
Cincinnati (16-8, 6-2 BIG EAST) will face St. John's tomorrow in the second round of the consolation bracket at 3 p.m. The Bearcats knocked off the Red Storm, 5-2, earlier this season in regularseason play. The winner will earn ninth place in the conference.
