OXFORD, Ohio - The University of Cincinnati men's outdoor track and field team sits in second place, while the women's team sits in last place after Day 1 of the All-Ohio Championships Friday at the George L. Rider Track. The men's team has 31 points, while the women's team has six points.
On the men's side, freshman Eric Finan finished first in the 5,000 meters with a time of 14:36.80, while senior Kyle Dragan also ran a strong race finishing in sixth with a time of 15:22.00. Also in the distance events, Brian Berling's sixth-place time of 31:41.42 in the 10,000 meters gave the Bearcats three points.
In the field, Shane Shockey finished third in the pole vault with a clearance of 16' 0-3/4". Additionally, the duo of Ian Jarman and Chad Hanson finished fifth and sixth, respectively, with throws of 195' 1" and 190' 5" in the hammer throw.
For the women, Jill Glassmeyer recorded three points with a sixth-place showing in the 5,000 meters with a time of 17:31.30. Chelsea Gerken also finished sixth in the javelin with a heave of 118' 3", capping off the UC scoring for the day.
Through the first four events of the women's heptathlon, Kaylon Eppinger sits in first place with a score of 3,091 after registering Top 3 finishes in the 100 hurdles, the shot put, the high jump, and the 200 meters. Chelsea Gerken sits in the third place with 2,638 and her top event of the day was a first-place finish in the shot put.
Action concludes tomorrow with most of the running events, plus the remainder of the decathlon. The first event gets underway at 10 a.m.
