Barry Boyd Interview | Bearcats Pride Day Information
CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati football team finished out spring practice 11 with a two-hour workout under clear skies, Saturday at Nippert Stadium.
Following some special teams work in the kickoff and punting games, the players split into position groups for individual drills and later moved into one-on-one, and seven-on-seven situations.
The Bearcats closed out practice with a brief controlled scrimmage, including officials. Much of the play was situational with the offense and defense working in the red zone and on the short and long field.
"As a whole, we played really agressive defensively," head coach Brian Kelly said. "That's what we're looking for. We've lost 10 starters on defense, but today we saw that we're starting to move in the right direction, playing the same kind of defense we have had the past few years. Spring ball has a lot of value relative to player evaluations and we got a good chance to see that today."
Looking ahead to Bearcat Bowl III on April 25 at Nippert Stadium, Kelly was looking forward to showcasing the 2009 squad to the UC faithful.
"We want it to be an exciting opportunity to see the 2009 team," Kelly said. "We're going to get a lot of the specific work work done in practice during the week because we want to put an exciting product on the field and have some fun. it will be a great day to come out and see our team."
Bearcat Bowl III will begin at 7 p.m. on April 25 and all fans will be admitted free. This year, it will serve as the marquee event of Bearcats Pride Day. Other events include a football clinic, baseball game, athletics garage sale, and a soccer match. View complete information on Bearcats Pride Day HERE.
One of the new faces around practice this spring is football equipment manager Barry Boyd. Boyd joined the UC staff in Aug. of 2007 and oversees UC's equipment operations. He transitioned over to football this winter and took time out to talk with GoBEARCATS.com this week. See the complete interview HERE.
